New Music From Wale

'Attention Deficit' by Wale set for October 20th release.

Things have not been right for Harlem’s own Charles Hamilton for a while now. Between beef with Wale, getting punched in the face for the entire Internet to see by his girl and beef with Soulja Boy has left the 21-year-old without a record label. Well, it’s not official, but pretty confirmed from many sources, including the leak of his should-have-been first album This Perfect Life...

You're Only As Good As Your Latest Song

Another Day On Earth writes and records a new song every day – and HEAVE gets a weekly update on this adventerous project.

Hey. Since January, because of a propensity towards grandeur, I've been writing and recording a song each and every day. This has made me a crack guitar tuner. It's also made me just one crack above homeless. Anyways, I post the tunes on a "blog," http://anotherdayonearth.net. I'm using this space to review the week's songs...

New Music From Richard Hawley

Richard Hawley delivers 'For Your Lover, Give Some Time.'

Richard Hawley is a man who's intricately mapped the lonely roads of a broken heart.  His songs seem to have the ability to squeeze every last drop of woe from that dying organ, all the while maintaining a wildly clever and endearing sense of humor.  Hawley's voice, to use an old adage, is like butter.  As Leonard Cohen slowly approaches the pearly gates, Mr. Hawley could very well be the last of the drinking man's poet crooner.

His previous and most successful album, Lady's Bridge, was a playful mix of his laid back Sunday morning standards along with some Bacharach style big band sounds.  Truelove's Gutter stays quietly in the back round, but in no way is "background" music.  For an album to keep such a steady tone throughout, Truelove's Gutter is a consistently entrancing and beautiful listen.

Take a listen to first single, "For Your Lover, Give Some Time."

Nice to Meet You: Jon Aanestad

Newcomer Jon Aanestad just might change your mind about singer songwriters with his new EP.

Berklee is like the Rydell High of music colleges.  From Quincy Jones to Gwar, it's produced some of the most memorable musicians to date.  Jon Aanestad, a Berklee alum himself, is another Berklee cat that has the talent to share in the success of his predecessors...

In Remembrance: The Blood Brothers

The Blood Brothers may not have been short-lived, but I’ll be damned if I don’t want them back.

Unlike the bands I usually feature on here that were only around a few years and put out an album or two; The Blood Brothers were around for 10 years and put out an impressive five albums.  However, they do fit into this category of bands that broke up too early.  It seems like most bands that break up after a lengthy career do so after their career has already peaked...
