Covers Album to Cover War Children

Indie-Darlings Riddle Philanthropic Effort

Endless amounts of sex, drugs, and rock n roll aren't all we care about over at HeaveMedia.  When we're not buried in blow or schooling Slash with our own finger-tapping, we like to give a little back to those less fortunate.  Interestingly enough, lots of bands you probably enjoy a lot share our sentiments.

In order to benefit the youngest and least fortunate of Iraq, Afghanistan, Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda, the British "War Child" organization is releasing a tribute album of great bands covering great songs by other great bands and is appropriately titled Heroes.  Among those participating are TV on the Radio, Beck, The Hold Steady, and The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, just to name a few.  I'm personally looking forward to Karen O's take on "Sheena is a Punk Rocker" and Peaches' inevitably hyper-lez version of "Search and Destroy."  You can find a full track listing here.

The album is set to release on February 16 and will be available here.  Just think, one less bump and you can save a child while hearing Tunde Adebimpe do his best Bowie.  If that isn't rock n roll, I don't know what is.

The New Year Mixtape

Because we can all pretend that personal baggage stays a year behind you.

Another year has come and gone, so welcome to 2009. Personally it's off to a good start, and hopefully this year will be a lot better for many than the last. Rather than make resolutions that no one keeps, I just see the switch of a calendar and the increase of a number on the date I write as a new beginning. And after a doozy of a year, who doesn't like an excuse to call it even and start fresh? Leave some baggage of the past year behind, listen to some rip-roaring tunes, and face 2009 with a fresh start...

New Music From Morrissey

Wit, wisdom and woe turned up to ten.

I can only assume the opening sounds of "I'm Throwing My Arms Around Paris" is Morrissey revving the engine of a classic silverish Vespa scooter. Yes, I'll admit it; I've had dreams of riding around Paris with my arms wrapped around Stephen Patrick Morrissey.   One hand grasping his mid-section while I wave to passers-by and mouth the word "Ciao!" Many of you have most likely had the same dream...

Takin' You Back

Yes has nothing to do with Jim Carrey

If you’ve ever enjoyed progressive acts like Dream Theater, Coheed and Cambria, or The Mars Volta, you have quite a few people to thank for launching the progressive rock genre.  The Beatles, Bob Dylan and The Byrds were some of the forerunners, but it wasn’t until the mid-late 60’s that progressive rock really took off.  One of the biggest prog-rock acts was Yes...

Presidents Ahoy!

Men in white wigs are back in a big way.

The project started as part of February Writing Month, a website that challenges musicians to write fourteen songs in twenty-eight days and then chooses the best of the best for a compilation disc.  Songwriters J. Matthew Gerken, Christian Kiefer and Jefferson Pitcher - all musicians themselves - decided to participate together and ended up recording forty-two rough demos centered on U.S. presidents for the 2006 edition, only omitting a song about George W. Bush...
