Yeah Yeah Yeahs to Perform on Saturday Night Live
Sharing the stage with Zac Efron... paradox shift or career killer?
Fire up those DV-R's. While you're out getting your drink on Saturday night, Ms. Karen O will be thrashing her way across the stage at 30 Rockefeller Center. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs are this week's musical guest on Saturday Night Live. If that's not reason enough to at least set your VCR to record, the extreme juxtaposition of host Zac Efron sharing a stage with the post-indie-heartthrobs should draw you in.
Secretly, I'm hoping that Karen and Zac share the stage at some point. Perhaps a hyper-sexed Karen O will hump the uber-awkward Disney front man? Who knows, with rehearsals this week, maybe Karen will introduce the High School Musical star to bedazzled leather jackets, eyeliner, and controlled substances. Let's just hope that things don't go the other direction and the YYY's don't perform choreographed dance numbers in pastel sweaters.

Nice To Meet You: Antennas Up
Prepare to ride the space funk express.
We’re not in Kansas anymore, kids. When I think of this state to the west usually vision of corn pop in my head. Not funky pop bands like Antennas Up. This Kansas City (KS not MO) band started out of the proud nerdism of bassist and songwriter Kyle Akers...

New Music from Cryptacize
The Cali art rock band is back with their sophomore release
That crazy California band Cryptacize is back and better than ever. Since their debut album Dig That Treasure in 2007, the band has been touring the country in a Toyota Corolla (a feat within itself) and performing with small amp stacks and a miniature drum kit...

Arcade Fire Premiere New Documentary on Pitchfork.tv
Ok, ok... I'll let the grandiose and overblown theatrics slide this time...
I know I'm going to get shit for this, but: I cannot stand The Arcade Fire.
To me, their sound is overwrought, unnecessarily phrenetic, and just plain overhyped. But they are also one of those bands that I know are really, really damn good. I think what has started changing my mind is the band's use in the Indie-Boner Where the Wild Things Are trailer: The Arcade Fire sound just begs for a cinematic experience.
In much the same way, I hate Pitchfork. Again, overwrought, unnecessary, (insert more pompousness here). But Pitchfork has combined forces with the Canadian supergroup to bring exactly what I want from both the band and the website: The Arcade Fire's documentary, Miroir Noir, will be streaming for free, but only for the next seven days at the Pitchfork website.
The 70-minute film features footage from the Neon Bible tour and behind the scenes footage during the recording of their second EP. Of course, there's a bunch of uber-pontifical artsy-fartsy-ness involved, as well.
Stream the film at Pitchfork here.
The film can be purchased, if you want, here.

In this week's episode of the HEAVEmedia podcast, Alyssa and Cory try to figure out if Wayne Coyne is senile. Also, why aren't there more indie feuds?
