New Music from Cryptacize

The Cali art rock band is back with their sophomore release

That crazy California band Cryptacize is back and better than ever.  Since their debut album Dig That Treasure in 2007, the band has been touring the country in a Toyota Corolla (a feat within itself) and performing with small amp stacks and a miniature drum kit.  Kind of strange-looking but this all somehow fits Cryptacize’s aesthetic.  Lead singer Nedelle Torrisi and cohort and guitarist Chris Cohen have always given off this child-like innocence.  Mixed with a feverish pop sound provided by eclectic drummer Michael Carreira and new bassist Aaron Olsen, the band as a whole has become a great performance piece for their latest album Mythomania.   

Their sound has grown monumentally from Dig That Treasure.  Just by listening to their single “Tail and Mane” you can see how much more concise and texturized their sound has gotten.  The addition of other instruments, from the keyboard to the autoharp, really brings the album to new heights.  It starts off in this odd burst of electronic strings and goes into a saucy meter.  Torrisi’s vocals are still as beautiful and pure as ever and her interplay with Cohen’s guitar on the track make you fall in love with Cryptacize all over again.  Mythomania comes out April 21^st on Asthmatic Kitty and is followed by a slew of tour dates abroad for their May tour and later in the US in June and July, with a few dates beforehand with Ariel Pink’s Haunted Grafitti and Vivian Girls.
