New Kid Cudi Video Emerges

Kid Cudi delivers 'I Poke Her Face' but will miss Grammy consideration.

Using perhaps my favorite Kid Cudi track, a video for “I Poke Her Face” has emerged to emit some Cudi hype before Man on the Moon: the End of Day launches August 25th. Wait, did I type August 25th? Curse my addled brain, I meant September 15th, silly me...

HEAVE's Top Pitchfork Acts

Who put on the best performances at Pitchfork?

The Jesus Lizard – Chicago punk royalty in a rare show.  David Yow, despite his old age, can still kick it like the youngsters.  When I was taking pictures of the band, Yow flew over my head into the crowd and was still singing every word clearly.  He got back on stage, wiped the blood off his lip, took a swig of beer and started singing without missing a beat.  I was impressed...

Nice to Meet You: The Press Fire!

The Press Fire! gives us dance punk you would sell your soul for.

Let's face it  - punk is dead.  Once it became a fashion statement more than a culture, it's core beliefs and ideals slowly disintegrated into horrible 80s pop and new wave music.  There are some that still play within the genre and do well, but the essence of it is lost in eyeliner and Hot Topic t-shirts.  But there are some bands though that refuse to let the spirit die...

You're Only As Good As Your Latest Song

Another Day On Earth writes and records a new song every day – and HEAVE gets a weekly update on this adventerous project.

Namaste. Since January, and due to a mild case of obsessive-compulsive disorder, I've been writing and recording a song each and every day. This has caused me to experience moments of great bliss, and also to have a recurring nightmare where bugs are crawling all over me. Anyways, I post the tunes on a "blog," http://anotherdayonearth.net. I'm using this space to review the week's songs...

We've Got You Covered: Orba Squara and Lady Gaga

Orba Squara makes a delightful little romp of Lady Gaga's 'Poker Face.'

You remember Orba Squara from one of the first iPhone commercials with his catchy little ditty “Perfect Timing (Good Morning).” What you may not know, however, is that Orba Squara licensed out nine of the ten tracks on Sunshyness, making the 2007 release the most licensed album since Moby’s Play.  Orba Squara knows how to cash in, and also knows how to construct a pretty solid cover song.

Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face” is catchy (but also sort of a terrible song). I didn’t know this until recently, but the song is actually about being a bisexual.  “Poker Face” referring to whether or not Lady Gaga likes girls or boys.  Gaga also stated to Rolling Stone that "bluffin' with my muffin" is referencing a guy going down on her. I’m guessing we will not be hearing this at the World Series of Poker.

Orba Squara takes the original and adds in some lazy (in a good way) guitars with some lighthearted bells.  Unfortunately, we get no “pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-poker face.”
