New Music From Cave Singers
Cave Singers 'Welcome Joy' this time around.
It’s still hard to think that the Cave Singers were born from the remnants of Pretty Girls Make Graves and Murder City Devils. Well, not too hard. Solid song writing shines through in any genre. The Cave Singers first album, Invitation Songs, was an honest effort at creating beautifully simple folk rock, (Graham Parsons, Emmylou Harris).
This time around, the Seattle natives must have opened up the shades and let a hint of light into that cold Vancouver studio. Welcome Joy treads no new territory, aside from the fact that singer Pete Quirk has loosened up his approach; exuding confidence in the rockers and gentleness in the more somber moments. Lead off track "Summer Light" hints at the early 70's Southern California sound mastered so well by Lindsey Buckingham and Ms. Stevie Nicks. A fine start to an album you can easily get lost in.

New Weezer Incites Shock
...In the Good Way. We promise.
Given the recent years of Weezer's follies and forays into idiocy, I wasn't too excited when a new album was announced for release on October 27. However, over the weekend, the first single leaked. It's entitled "(If You're Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To" and its "shred-factor" is directly proportional to the length of its title (that's the hipster way to say something is good). With the whole song clocking in at a frenetic 3:27 of distorted guitars, catchy and poppy riffs, and Rivers making a return to the embarrassed nerd-kitsche that made us swoon in years past, it's a delightful return to form for the group.
Check it out ASAP, supposedly permanently, over at The Hype Machine.

You're Only As Good As Your Latest Song
Another Day On Earth writes and records a new song every day – and HEAVE gets a weekly update on this adventerous project.
"Hello there. Since January, because I read too many issues of Spin Magazine as a kid, I've been writing and recording a song each and every day. This has allowed me to get interviewed by big name publications, and also to relive elementary school as the interviewers harped on and on about how funny my last name is. Anyways, I post the tunes on a "blog," http://anotherdayonearth.net...

In Remembrance: Test Icicles
Test Icicles released one groin grabbingly great album - and then disappeared into buzz band obscurity.
When I first heard about Test Icicles I was pretty pissed. It was like, good damn, these guys came and went and nobody felt the need to inform me of their epic awesomeness? Thanks a lot, so-called friends...
