New Music From Florence And The Machine

Florence just isn't another Amy Winehouse clone.

The influx of female British singer-songwriters has been a bit blinding as of late; but it’s not that the fantastic music and pretty little faces aren't welcome.  Why should the pock-faced Brit boys have all the fun? Really guys, there's only so many Libertine/Arctic Monkey-ish bands the scene can take.  In regards to the ladies, the cool thing I should mention is the exceptional quality with the quantity...

Takin' You Back

Letting it bleed with The Rolling Stones

Let’s hop in the time machine once again to take a listen to another one of the great rock n’ roll bands of all time, The Rolling Stones.  What The Stones have, aside from a guitarist who is probably older than the Parthenon, is a true talent for writing kick-ass rock songs...

The Christmastime Mix Tape

Because you can only listen to corny Christmas music for a month. Well, unless you are weird.

After stuffing ourselves with enough turkey to pass out, watching football (or in my case, The National Dog Show) and running into Best Buy to score a deal on a flat screen television, America is laying rest to Thanksgiving for another year, and welcoming the Christmas season with open arms. Christmas officially starts for me on Thanksgiving when I bust out the new Holiday mix of music to both amuse and annoy my extended family...

New Music From Love Is All

Love Is All wants all of your wishes to come true.

You know that feeling teenage girls get when they throw slumber parties?  If you'd like a better understanding please refer to the opening scenes of seminal 80's film Valley Girl.  "Wishing Well," the latest single from Scandinavian quartet Love Is All, sort of plays out like that.  Twenty pigtails swinging to the beat, pink pajamas stained with grape soda, Cool Ranch Doritos and an empty bottle of Adderall - yeah, you get the picture.

Part surf rock stomper, part riot girl anthem, "Wishing Well" is the latest single from Love Is All's second album A Hundred Things Keep Me Up At Night.  Front woman Josephine Olausson desperation and heartbreak makes for a great two and half minutes of mindless bouncy fun.  The "Tally Ho" Farfisa keyboards and reverb tanked guitars is just the icing on this Swedish cake.  Much like X-Ray Spex before them, Love Is All has the ability to make annoyance into something you can dance to.  Seldom do those "wishing well" wishes come true, but it's still somewhat pretty to see all that metal sparkle under rusty water.

Takin' You Back

HEAVE returns to Highway 61.

It’s time for me to get on my soapbox and rant like an old man. Kids these days don’t have any sort of appreciation for the music that influenced some of their favorite bands.  There was a time not too long ago when being a fan of Jimi Hendrix or the Rolling Stones made you cool…I think it was called college.  But far too few in any sort of rock sub-genre scene hold an appreciation for the man who has had a huge impact on modern music.  That man is Bob Dylan...
