We've Got You Covered: Pale Young Gentlemen and 'Paper Planes'
Pale Young Gentlemen take on M.I.A.
The overexposure of M.I.A.’s “Paper Planes” was quite startling. It was all over the place, disappeared and then reappeared via the likes of Pineapple Express and Slumdog Millionaire. I was actually happy with the reemergence – because “Paper Planes” gets me to do even the slightest of head bobs with every listen.
The popularity of “Paper Planes” was greatly enhanced by the multiple remixes and covers that started popping up all over the Internet. While some of the covers were quite awful, other (much larger) bands like Built To Spill took on M.I.A. and turned an already amazing song into a new equally amazing song in an entirely different genre.
Then you have the likes of the Pale Young Gentlemen. Pale Young Gentlemen take “Paper Planes” and turn it into a folksy acoustic guitar and violin driven track. It’s really not even close to touching the original, but I will give Pale Young Gentlemen credit for making me understand the song much better. There are at least four parts in the Pale Young Gentlemen version where I said to myself, “Oh, I didn’t know she said that originally.”

Ridin' Dirty
Dirty Projectors Keep Their Ball Rolling
There's no end in sight to the perky, space-pop sound that The Dirty Projectors have perfected. They've got the token quirky indie female vocalists, an ear for eccentricity, and the backing of David Byrne behind them, so it should be no surprise that they've announced another string of tour dates following their stint with TV on the Radio. And if their new song, featured on the Read On

It was foreseen that a track listing for Eminem’s Relapse would emerge rather soon, and here it is (unofficially).

We've Got You Covered
Woodhands puts a spin on Katy Perry.
Remember when you hated yourself for thinking “I Kissed A Girl” by Katy Perry was incredibly catchy? The song swept the country (and probably brought high school sexual tension to an alarming high) and made Katy Perry into a star overnight. And what huge hit nowadays doesn’t get covered?
Today’s cover of “I Kissed A Girl” comes from some of HEAVE’s favorite Canadians, Woodhands. Daniel Werb and Pa ul Banwatt take the girl anthem of cherry chap stick and introduce a electro-pop snarl that makes Werb sound pretty pissed off that it took him so long to lock lips with a lady. And it really shouldn’t have taken that long, Daniel – you play keytar.
If you missed it, you can read our interview with Woodhands here.

Time Releases 100 Most Influential People List
M.I.A. tops, Lil Wayne Drops
Time's 100 Most Inluential People List came out today and features M.I.A. put upon the same pedastel as people like Oprah, Ed Kennedy, and Michelle Obama. Who woulda thunk that the girl with all the Visas who flies like planes would go boom boom boom boom to the top of cultural consciousness only a few years later. No doubt, it has something to do with her pre-partum strutting and accompaniment on the Oscar Nominated "O... Saya" from Slumdog Millionaire.
Not surprisingly, however, finalists like Lil Wayne, Kanye West, and T-Pain didn't make the list, no matter how cool it still is to be "on a boat."
