HEAVEmedia Concert Preview

A preview of the electronic goodness coming from Reggie's Rock Room.

HEAVEmedia is proud to present our first show February 27th at Reggie’s Music Joint on the south side of Chicago.  We’ve teamed up with the beautiful people at Reggie’s to put together an electronic extravaganza featuring local acts Velva and Brighten Up, along with imported Minneapolis act Tentacle Boy.  Below are some profiles about each band and some music.

Velva is a Chicago band whose abuse of technology has created complicated soundscapes and psychedelic lyrics.  The band is all about experimentation and plays with everything from jam music to dance remixes to rev audiences into frenzy.  Their live show is something not to be missed - with a fantastic light show and alien costumes, which makes it less a concert and more an experience.  Velva never forgets the playfulness within their music and even if electronic music may not be your think their exuberant energy is a sure crowd pleaser.  Derelectricity is the band’s latest release and their single “Electric Derelict” could be the main theme for a cult 50s sci-fi film.

Brighten Up is a relatively young duo on the Chicago scene who just released their first EP Dystopian Utopia this month.  Justin Bean and Dan Smith utilize their mastery of all things electronic to perform their mostly instrumental pieces.  The band has an uncanny ability to captivate their audience with the atmosphere that they create on stage.  It takes two to tango, and Brighten Up’s tango is superb.  Their single off of Dystopian Utopia “Spiritual Skyscraper” shows their poignant sound and atmospheric style.

Tentacle Boy started with one man and a keyboard and grew into a full musical explosion.  Adam To started his one-man act in Minneapolis in 2008 and hasn’t stopped pumping his beats since then.  He’s less experimental than Velva and Brighten Up but Tentacle Boy’s music is no less amazing.  Tentacle Boy’s debut EP The Lost Notecame out recently and his single “Early Bird” weaves its samples and lyrics together to make a blanket of beats.
