Summer Camp: Day 2
The adventure continues at Summer Camp 2008.
8:43 am – Just waking up with the aid of caffeine. Waterstreet is playing today, and Rob’s house is bustling with band members getting ready to load (Lisa: The music industry isn’t always glamorous, case in point a 8:00 am load time to head to a festival for an early morning slot). An 11 am slot may be a tough time to capture everyone, but I’m pretty sure once the guitars start squealing people are going to wake up...

Summer Camp: Day 1
Lisa and Amy stalk the Flaming Lips and answer the question, "Can hippies dance to Girl Talk?"
It’s muddy, there are hippies everywhere and clouds of smoke are ejecting out of crowds. Camps line the outlying areas of the stages, and barefoot is the preferred footwear. This is Summer Camp. Set in Chillicothe, Illinois and basically ran by renowned jam band moe., Summer Camp provides an interesting experience for a city girl like me. Being thrust into the world of hippies and jam bands, Amy Dittmeier and Lisa White traversed through a variety of amazing and frightening experiences, all in the name of music...

The British Are Coming
Summertime Floor Fillers courtesy of Midnight Juggernauts
Rumour has it that up and coming Australian trio Midnight Juggernauts had to make the french duo Justice a proper meal before being allowed to play on their 2007 tour of the states. Midnight Juggernauts are your new favorite space-age rock n' roll fantasy. Though more Bowie than Bad Company, Vincent Vendetta, Daniel Stricker and Andy Juggernaut call Melbourne, AU home, but could easily set up shop on the rings of Saturn sipping cocktails. Their sound brings the ambience of Air and Kraftwerk together with the disco/rock kick of ELO and Klaxons.
Formed in 2005, Midnight Juggernauts have caught the attention of many in the electronic realm. They toured the States last year with dynamic French duo Justice and have been remixed by the likes of M83 and Wolfmother. Self-produced and released debut album Dystopia on Siberia Records (Astralwerks in the US) is a study in positive symbiosis and what a band is capable of when you do it all on your own. Dystopia will be in stores May 27.

Your Listening Pleasure
Because everybody loves new music from Coldplay and Death Cab for Cutie.
Once a band has reached a certain level of critical acclaim and commercial success over the course of several albums, it's often times hard for the very same band to replicate the magic formula that made their success possible in the first place – just ask Rivers Cuomo of Weezer or any "classic rock" band still making records...

We've Got You Covered
The Get Up Kids try to cheer up The Cure.
One of the first cover songs we looked at in our weekly feature was the Get Up Kids' version of David Bowie’s “Suffragette City,” off their album Eudora. The album features a number of cover songs ranging from Motley Crue’s “On With The Show” to the Pixies’ “Alec Eiffel." The album is very good. We’re going back to that album this week with “Close to Me,” originally performed by The Cure...
