Business Casual Superstar

Alexis Bledel is crazy hot and talented; too bad she was on that sucktastic show "Gilmore Girls." a lot of people liked it, but it was god-awful.

All right, guys, I'm currently gearing up for law school finals, so this is going to be short and sweet. I'm talking images instead of words! Bullet points! Numbered lists! Abbreviations! Anything to save time! F&C, ppl! CriManSqua!

(Um, that was, front and center, people, crisis management squad. AND NOW WE'VE WASTED SO MUCH TIME BECAUSE YOU GUYS CAN'T FOLLOW SIMPLE ABBREVIATIONS GOD.)

So let's talk about Rory Gilmore. Here she is: The actress that plays her (Alexis Bledel) is delightful and gorgeous, and was actually an architecture student at 19 when she auditioned on a whim and was picked to play 15 or 16 year old Rory Gilmore. When the show ended, Rory was going to cover Obama's moves in Iowa around the time of the caucuses. He won that state. I bet that if the show could, it would credit Rory with his win.

As you've guessed by now, the show irks me. It was good for 3.5 seasons, and then Rory slept with her first boyfriend, who was married at the time, and became the most whiny, hypocritical, selfish, stupid, rah-rah bitch ever. Oh, and she could do no wrong. I kept watching for the trainwreck factor, and boy, was it a trainwreck. Also, Amy Sherman Palladino, the EP, is quite possibly the worst television executive ever. Hate everything.

So there we go: Rory sucks, the show sucked, and Alexis Bledel is awesome.

When it comes to her style, Rory likes solid colors (made interesting by a couple minimalist stripes, chunky knits, or a ruffle here or there), sweet girly designs and accents, pleats, A-lines, a very light vintage touch sometimes, and generally an Ivy-League inspired look. And why not? She went to Yale. *RMFE* So here's an outfit I put together that is inspired by Rory's girly but subdued and polished style.

Embellished Tank in Black .......... $11.99 High Waisted Pull-On Skirt in Eggplant .......... $29.99 Sheer Pindot Cardigan .......... $15.80 Sadie Monochrome Peep Toe in Black .......... $23.67 Patent Snakeskin Wallet .......... $15

OK, folks, we're short on time, so let's DO THIS. I don't want any interruptions today. And you in the second row, none of your shenanigans or I will seriously shank you. Everyone just sit down and shut up and let's do this and all get home to our families. OK? Great.

I went with a purple high-waist A-line skirt. Rory wears A-lines a lot because Alexis Bledel has curvy, Latina hips. (And I can say that because apparently she's part-Latina. And has a terrible accent when she attempts to speak Spanish.) Anyway, A-lines are super flattering for wider hips because they're all swishing and balance out the shape and all that.

I paired the skirt with a black embellished tank top. You'll notice the shiny things happening along the top. Over that, I added the sheer, girly little cardigan with the black trim. It's got that feminine and professional touch to it that Rory gravitated to in the later seasons when she was hosting galas for the Daughters of the American Revolution or whatever, and working at that paper and generally sucking at life.

I went with the black and white peep toes, just because they're more interesting than boring black pumps, and they've got kind of a vintage feel, too, but not so much that they just look out of place. To finish it off, I added a pink clutch/wallet dealie. It's got a coin purse inside, so it's not just a wallet. Whatever, check it out. Or don't. I'm not your mother. I picked the pink color (with the little black designs on the fringe) because Rory doesn't go all matchy-matchy, but picks one or two color families and just kind of stays there. The pink is in the same family as the purple, and it's easily something she'd use to finish off her little ensemble.

And there we have our outfit for the week. Next week, I'm thinking of putting up the outfit that Emma Pillsbury wore on last night's Glee. It was so distinctly Emma! OK, good, glad it was decided.
