Charlie Deets Prepares New Album, Releases Single
'Skinny Girl With C's' gives insight to Deets' new flavor.
Since his last release Fight the Death Funk and his feature on HEAVEmedia, Chicagoan Charlie Deets has been hard at work in his home studio mixing and master his latest creation The Power of Suggestion. Deets has slowly made the transformation from pure electronic music from his first album to an entirely different sound altogether. When Fight the Death Funk was being made Deets's previous rock band had broken up. Adding a bit of guitar, an instrument he wasn't playing as regularly anymore, into his own music was a natural progression. The year and a half between Fight the Death Funk and his new material lead to more exploration into integrating rock and electronic music. In lieu on electronic drums on some of Deet's new songs, he enlisted the help of Deric Criss (aka the drummer in Aleks and the Drummer) to add a live, more resounding drum track. Anything is fair game in Deet's music now.
This is most evident in his single off of The Power of Suggestion - "Skinny Girls With C's." The single has a definite, more agreesive feel on it compared to some of Deet's past works. The thumping deep bass and sporadic glitches of sound lend themselves to Deet's digitized lyrics. The video for "Skinny Girl With C's" is also quite stellar, right down to the shirtless man in the woods giving Deets a back rub while bouncing to the music. Between the virility of the shirtless man to the tight beats Deets has produced, you can't help but feel a little frightened and aroused by what he's created. The Power of Suggestion is due out February 14, 2010 on Paribus Records.
