In Remembrance: Moros Eros

You may not have been with us for long, but Moros Eros made a lasting impression.

While they may be kaput now, Moros Eros’ unique blend of controlled craziness lives on.  Once citing that it was their mission to create the perfect blend of dance-y, hard-hitting rock and pop, we can safely confirm, in their demise, that they did just that.  And did a damn good job too.

In 2005, in an Atlanta suburb, Moros Eros came into being.  Singer/guitarist Zach Tipton, keyboardist/guitarist Chris Firebaugh, drummer Bobby Theberge, and bassist DJ Shultz, started everything with a project named In Vitro.   The foursome began playing shows and recording, eventually releasing their first EP, I’m Dying But I Still Don’t See Anything.

Not long after the unveiling of the EP, the group was soon added to the roster of renowned punk/hardcore label, Victory Records.  Shortly after being signed the group was informed that there was a French band that already held the rights to the name, so they hastily made the decision to change their name to Moros Eros (in Greek, Moros meaning “impending doom” and Eros being the Greek god of love).

In late 2006, the group released their first full-length album, I Saw The Devil Last Night And Now The Sun Shines Bright, on Halloween night.  The album received positive reviews and creating some stir about the group’s unorthodox sound.  The album was produced by John Naclerio (The Forcast, Brand New, Senses Fail and Marathon) and was distributed through Victory Records.

Following a year of growing popularity and widespread touring, Moros Eros released their second and final album, Jealous Me Was Killed By Curiosity, almost exactly a year after I Saw The Devil Last Night And Now The Sun Shines Bright"Times New Roman";">’s release.  Notably softer than their first release, many fans of the group were slightly disappointed with the latest effort, although, the album still received decent reviews nonetheless.

After enjoying the limited success of their second album and touring for a few months, the band announced their breakup. n>  Rumors circulated that the breakup was in part due to the group’s relationship to Victory Records, who have, in the past, been linked to much hostility with their represented artists.  The band refuted these rumors and claimed that they were ready to move on to new things musically as well as personally.  In the band’s myspace, weeks after the breakup, Tipton gave the following reasons, “…We eventually came to the conclusion that we didn't really feel up to the task of playing this kind of music anymore. It's kind of tiring to sing almost every day about things that are always bothering you, without ever coming to any final conclusion. Without getting too philosophical, it was just the band's time.”

Following their breakup, Tipton relocated to Denver and with the help of Adam Halferty started Young Coyotes; he is also actively working on his solo project, I Am The Dot.  Chris Firebaugh went on to join a band named The Peppermint Confederacy. Bobby Theberge is currently recording under the name Yahoos.
