Kid Cudi and Jay-Z CD releases inbound!
How will Jay-Z and Kid Cudi’s albums fair? And have a listen to Jay-Z’s ‘Reminder.’
September is but a week away, and what does September bring in the hip-hop world? How about the release of two probable platinum albums from the likes of welterweight Kid Cudi and heavyweight and reigning hip-hop champion, Jay-Z? Jay’s album drops first, approximately eight years after the original Blueprint, on September 11th - with Cudi throwing his punches four days following. Needless to say, both have been working hard to stay in the media spotlight. We’ll let the Kid go first because he probably could use the boost on the seasoned vet.
Although not leaking as much as Jay-Z recently, Cudi has graced the cover of Complex magazine (alongside the sexy Keri Hilson, but a flip away). Inside its pages has an interview, but you can take a look-see at Complex’s website if you think print is dead. Speaking of covers, Cudi put up the artwork for his freshmen album on his site. In addition to the plethora of warm colors on the cover, we also have a scene listing for the album. You heard right, scene listing; Cudi is trying to put on a nice little show for you with the five acts of Man on the Moon. Looks like Cudi wanted us to have two helpings of Ratatat and a single dose of MGMT and Chip the Ripper. Dope! The next single from the Kid is “Pursuit of Happiness” featuring MGMT and Ratatat. Sounds like can’t miss, but Jay-Z has a few uppercuts to throw recently, too.
Someone has been working hard to leak Jay-Z’s blueprints, because within two weeks we’ve listened to two joints produced by Timbaland. But first, a set list of Jay’s own to peek at in case you missed it. Plenty of duets in the works, and hey! Isn’t that Cudi on one of those tracks? Extra points for the Kid! But lets get back to the two most recent tracks leaked off the album, “Off That” that has the Cash Money kid Drake featured on that one, and a scarce (to the album) solo Jay track entitled, “Reminder.” The Drake joint comes off a bit run-of-the-mill; but our ears can’t help but enjoy “Reminder” much more as a song. However, “Off That” has the added bonus of pissing of Bill O’Reilly. Too, too funny!
No matter where you stack the points, both Jay and Cudi look to have some quality albums that will be eating out meager wallets in the weeks to follow. Which do you think is going to be the better album, or the better selling album?
