Jay Z Launches Assault On Autotune
Jay Z's new single hates autotune - just like it should.
Jay-Z finally comes forth and brings the world his first single off The Blueprint 3. Produced by No ID, the single entitled “D.O.A. (Death of Autotune)” has a simple message in mind. That message? Fuck off and die, auto-tune.
Hova addresses the tiredness that is auto-tune with brass knuckles in his lyrics. “This is anti-auto-tune, death of the ringtone. This ain’t for iTunes, this ain’t for sing-a-long,” begins Jigga on the assault. It should be addressed that BP3 will probably be on iTunes but don’t tell Jay-Z.
The hook brings forth a playful “Nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah nah, hey hey, goodbye,” to the tune of Steam. Jay-Z calls out all the rapper out there using this evil toy and tells them to stop playin’ and get back to rapping.
There sure are plenty of auto-tune haters out there, but when this blunt a message comes from someone as big as Jay, you can bet plenty will be listening. Right after its release some major recording artists commented on the track. Slim Thugga wrote on his twitter, “Jayz DOA go hard I’m glad I don’t do none of the shit he talking bout” and DJ Webstar wrote, “bottom line is a 40 year old could never relate to a 17 or 22 year old so he could never end my career..”
Also if you have been in hip-hop la-la land Jay-Z played the single live at the Summer Jam that happened this past weekend. Not a huge deal to be honest. Not a huge deal, however, T-Pain was standing right next to Jigga on stage the whole time Jay performed! And Hova calls him out in the lyrics even!
Watch the video and laugh at T-Pain prancing around the stage as he takes the machinegun bullet laced lyrics within “D.O.A.”
Give the single a listen and let me know how you’re feeling it. The beat is a little tired but the message is there. Just wait for some poor soul to auto-tune remix this track. It’ll happen, you’ll see.
Are you ready for The Blueprint 3?
