DOOM and Ghostface Killah Promote Chinatown Wars

Duo's track for upcoming game surprisingly good.

Rap and video games are a couple of my favorite things in these recent times. When they meet I generally have a preconceived bias that negates all logic (see 50 Cent: Bulletproof) and peeps, “Oo, me likey.” Ghostface Killah and DOOM’s (formerly MF Doom) recent promotional track for Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars helps support said bias, well, for the most part. Although the trailer for the game only highlights a Ghost verse, a full version featuring DOOM hit the net not too long after the trailer dropped.

The chorus that Mr. Tony Stark lays down is pretty weak, but the verses that the two MC’s lay down make up where the hook lacks. As much as I like Ghostface, DOOM’s input was stronger and left the ears yearning for more. “Clap on…Clap off. Fake ass street thugs either need to act soft or cough,” enters DOOM with his soft-spoken flow, carefully woven to compliment Killah’s in your face style.  Mix in an Asian-inspired beat and a few lines that have to do with the game and you have yourself a promotional track fit for the game. Game or no game, this track stands up on both feet relatively well.

Ghostface and DOOM have supposedly been working on a collaborative album for what seems like years. Most recently they have put together the Sniperlite EP with J Dilla that is available on iTunes. But that was about a year ago. DOOM is also set to release a new full length “Born Like This” March 24th (now with more Thom Yorke!). Now if only Ghostface and DOOM would release damn collaboration album.

Oh and if you were wondering the game GTA: Chinatown Wars drops Tuesday, March 17th. But you probably weren’t.
