New Music from Estate

Minneapolis mix masters redo Madrid’s 'Bam Bam Brother.'

One of our favorite Minneapolis movers and shakers Estate are back with their reworking of “Bam Bam Brother” by the Toronto band Madrid. The band has made a couple changes since we last spoke to them back in November. Members Dan Kramer and Josh Johnson started a music and sound design company in Minneapolis called Transonic and has started working with bands to remix their current tracks (although the exact bands remain a secret until later). Estate also welcomed drummer Jessie Lesmeister to the group this year, which will add a fuller sound to the electronic band’s live set and their upcoming full-length album.

Other HEAVEmedia favorite Nobot is teaming up with Estate again to do their second installment of “Project Project” at the end of March. “Project Project” is a gathering of Minneapolis artists, musicians and filmmakers to celebrate art in the Twin Cities. Their first installment was highly successful and their second try is something not to miss.

But enough about the band, what about the music? Estate’s remix of “Bam Bam Brother” changes Madrid’s poppy single into a bubbly dance hit. What draws me to Estate’s remixes is that they can take an established song and completely make it their own. “Bam Bam Brother” captures that dream-like quality that many of Estate’s original songs have, not to mention adds some 70s funk for that vintage feel. If you’re bored at work and reading this, I suggest you put this on your iPod and organize a tiny dance party in the nearest elevator or stairwell. Right now.
