Disappearing Funds

Any movie that involves testicles on a drumset deserves some kind of Academy Award--that's our position.

Movies: Punisher: War Zone

The first thing you need to know about Punisher: War Zone is that it is not a sequel to the Punisher film starring Tom Jane.  Punisher: War Zone is a re-imagining of the comic book anti-hero starring Ray Stevenson.  In the film, Frank Castle is out to punish all criminals after his family is murdered.  He sets his sights on mobster Billy Russoti, who becomes the disfigured Jigsaw (not to be confused with the Saw serial killer guy).  With the FBI unable to bring Jigsaw in and the “Punisher Task Force” hot on his trail, the badass dude with a seemingly unlimited supply of guns and ammo must fight through Jigsaw’s army of thugs to take down the dangerous criminal.

DVDs: Step Brothers vs. Wanted vs. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

Three big DVD releases this week, three distinctly different offerings.  We’ll start with a comedy starring Will Ferrell.  Yeah, Step Brothers.  After some very un-funny offerings, the SNL alumnus finally got something right with this movie.  John C. Reilly plays Ferrell’s step brother as the two middle-aged dudes, who still live with their parents, duke it out like 12 year-olds.  Special features include deleted scenes, outtakes, job interviews, therapy sessions and quite a bit more.

Moving on to the action movie release of the week, we have Wanted.  This movie was originally a graphic novel that follows a twenty-something guy as he goes from office nobody to one of the greatest assassins in the history of ever.  The movie also stars Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman.  Special features on the DVD release are somewhat sparse, but you can find features on stunt work, assassin profiles and bringing the graphic novel to life.

The final DVD release this we’ll look at this week is a bit more family friendly than the other two.  In The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, those crazy kids travel back to Narnia again, this time to discover that although only a year has passed since the events of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, 1,300 years have passed in Narnia.  The talking animals and magic that were so familiar are now nothing more than legend.  If you pick up the three disc special edition, expect to see bloopers, deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes, and quite a bit more.

The Edge:  Any or all.  Really it depends on your tastes.  Each is pretty genre specific although there is a bit of action in Prince Caspian for those who enjoy fantasy battles.

Games:  Prince of Persia (Multiple)

This is another entry in the bin of “it has the same name but is completely different”.  Ubisoft’s newest entry into the Prince of Persia franchise is a complete re-design.  The prince we know from The Sands of Time, The Two Princes, and Warrior Within is gone and replaced by a guy with a penchant for snide remarks.  Combat has been completely re-worked to include the prince’s new companion Farah.  The gist of the plot is that this random dude, who is really more thief than prince, who gets lost in a sandstorm while searching for his donkey.  He ends up in a strange land besieged by the corruption of an evil god.  Of course, the prince must help Farah heal the land and defeat the evil god.  The game boasts an immersive story and some absolutely stunning visuals.  This one is a must.
