The Post Election Mix Tape.
Or something that might be played at a wedding.
HEAVE never officially
endorsed either candidate this past election. Although you can probably guess
what a few of us were feeling last night on the evening of one of the most
historical elections in our country’s history. For many the past eight years
have been a heartbreaking and trying time, and our nation clearly spoke that as
a whole we would like a change in how our government is run, how our country is
perceived and who we hold up as a leader in our society. Regardless of your
political affiliation, something special happened last night. In Chicago you
could feel the hope and energy resonate throughout the city, the air having an
almost static and electric feel. Across the country people cheered and
celebrated, while those that did not win political gain gracefully exited,
realizing that it was time for the door that has been open for eight years to
finally close. The country has a long road ahead with a lot of problems to fix.
But one person can unify and rally a group of people to be passionate and care
about their own causes and rights, and last night America found just that
person. There is a lot of work to be done, but for now we celebrate. Queen - We Are The
Champions - One of the most epic
songs about winning. Try not to get somewhat choked up during the swell in the
chorus. Kool & The Gang –
Celebration - Yes, this song is
incredibly corny and discotastic, and it may get play by every bad wedding DJ,
but I guarantee that it was played at least a few times by people last night in
Grant Park. David Bowie – Changes
- I hear that Obama really loves
the word "change," and I'm totally all right with that. Not to be
confused with my college alma mater's slogan "create change." Bruce Springsteen -
The Rising - Obama used this song
a lot during his campaign. With a chorus like "come on up for the rising,
come on up lay your hand in mine," you can clearly see the unity that his
campaign inspired in many American people. Kanye West – Champion
- I had to include a track from
Chicago's other hometown hero, Kanye West. I'm pretty sure that Kanye can no
longer say that our president doesn't care about black people. Daft Punk - One More
Time - Obama rocked Grant Park
last night, but I'm still skeptical if he rocked it as hard as Daft Punk did at
Lollapalooza a few years back. We'll call it a draw. Bright Eyes - When
The President Talks To God - Conor Oberst clearly was not a fan of the Bush administration. Bid this
protest song a last adieu (along with President Bush) since it won't be
applicable for much longer.
