New Music From Passion Pit
Not just a fun band to Google Image Search with.
Grades be damned, love is the drug on the Chunk Of Change EP, and for shame if Passion Pit (aka Michael Angelakos) didn't score. Angelakos originally made Chunk Of Change as an audio Valentine's card to his girlfriend at Emerson College. Word of mouth spread quickly across the quad, and eventually a lover's obsession became known around the world.
"Sleepyhead" brings to mind those strange but funny Japanese shows that involve neon helmets and people falling into kiddie pools. A subtle break-beat flows into Neverending Story-like keys, while Angelakos' helium induced vocals pierce through this choppy but brilliant synth pop. Like a drunken night in a dorm room full of people, each listen reveals a new discovery. Angelakos production brings to mind some interesting folk. Think a demented Shins song if Gibby Haines and Kate Bush got their hands on it. Soar, Falcor, soar!
The Boston based (and now 5 piece group) Passion Pit have opened for the likes of Death Cab For Cutie, These New Puritans; and as of recently that leggy, aerobics loving French girl Yelle. Expect a tour this fall and a full-length album will appear in early 2009 via French Kiss.
