The British Are Coming

Lily Allen hosts a TV show, Clinic sets a date on a new album and new music from The Futureheads

Lily Allen has a TV show? Doesn't sound like such a bad idea. She seems sweet enough and has a sense of humor, just listen to her lyrics. Unfortunately, the first taping “Lily Allen And Friends” left some in the audience questioning their relationship with the pop princess. Her jokes fell flat, she couldn't read her cue cards and fifty people walked out. Allen also managed to offend actor Cuba Gooding Jr. while showing a tape of animals having sex. Which also begs the question, has Cuba Gooding Jr. now officially immigrated to England? What the hell was he doing introducing Amy Winehouse at the Grammy's?

Ash will be making a one-off appearance in New York City this St. Patrick's Day. The trio will perform at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn where they will showcase material from their latest self-produced long player Twilight Of The Innocents.

The Long Blondes will follow-up their debut, Someone To Drive You Home with Couples via Rough Trade Records this April. Be sure to check them out this May as they take you to giddy touring stratospheres. The Long Blondes can be seen May 24th in Chicago at Logan Square Auditorium.

Honorary rock surgeons, Clinic, will return April 8th with their fifth album Do It. Clinic front man Ade Blackburn describes the album as a, “Contrast between mellow and weirdness. We heavily chopped up the song structures so they're not standard verse/chorus. It makes the record hard to pin down and unpredictable."

The Futureheads represent everything positive the sometimes-flippant British press can say about a band. Labels like "best new band in the land" or "your favorite new band" can make or break you. The Futureheads deservedly received all this praise, but never reached the iconic status of Franz Ferdinand or the drug addled glory of The Libertines. After two fantastic pulse pounding albums, The Futureheads will return this May with This Is Not The World. It's sort of a new beginning for them, as they will release the album on their own Nul Records. The first single, "The Beginning Of The Twist" is classic Futureheads, evoking XTC, Gang of Four and even some A-ha imagery in the video.
