Across The Pond
Portishead, The Jesus and Mary Chain and The Maccabees in this week's Across The Pond
Interpol's Sam Foragino and Swervedriver's Adam Franklin released their first EP via Itunes under the moniker The Setting Suns. Fogarino said, "I've been a Swervedriver fan from the start, still am. I would have killed just to bang a can for Adam Franklin. Now, he makes sense of my melodies, and turns our ideas into a beautiful din. I feel lucky and alive...and a bit sick from my own sap."
Portishead are set to make their live return next weekend at Britain's installment of "All Tomorrow's Parties." The three day event promises to be a stunning affair with performances by Julian Cope, The Horrors, Glenn Branca and Aphex Twin, just to name a few.
The Jesus and Mary Chain spoke to Billboard recently on their split. William Reid said, "When we ended in '98, we hated each other. A lot of that was down to drink and drugs. Jim's completely sober now, and I don't drink during the shows. But there is a kind of wariness. We're both aware that we could snap at each other," he said with a laugh, "But we're trying to hold it together. We love this band, and we love each other. And on the future direction of, I would say it's an evolution," Reid says of the new material, which he and his brother wrote separately. "It definitely sounds like the Mary Chain, but I guess you evolve as a person and a writer. You can't really stand still. If you do that, you're lost."
Los Angeles natives and Morrissey idols, Sparks, have revealed they will be playing an exhaustive 21 nights in May of 2008 in London. The band is set to play an album a night from their genre spanning, twenty album catalogue.
This week's single of the week comes to us from Brighton based kissy-face rockers The Maccabees. Enjoy their latest single and lip lock heavy video, "Toothpaste Kisses."
